Business Cards Business Cards
Usually the first printed item purchased by anyone with products or services for sale, business cards are both inexpensive and effective. Many successful business people feel that their best form of marketing is meeting face to face with potential customers and leaving them with a functional, attractive business card.
Virtually all business cards for use in the United States are 2 x 3.5 inches in size, which fits in standard card holders and files. To include more information, cards can be printed on both sides, or foldover cards may be used. Most business cards are printed in full color now that new technologies have reduced pricing significantly.

Simple Simple Simple Postcards Postcards
What's the most concise and economical way to mail promotional information to customers and prospects? Without question, the answer is "Postcards."
With postcards, there's no need to print and insert materials into envelopes, and recipients can quickly see who the mailing is from and why they might wish to take a moment to read the promotional text. Plus, postage is often less than for letters.
Postcards are printed in a variety of sizes, including 4 x 6, 5.5 x 8.5 and even 6 x 11 inches (for maximum impact without additional postage cost). The front is usually printed in full color, often with UV coating to protect the image during mailing. The back is often printed in black ink only, though full color is increasingly popular as the additional cost has become minimal in recent years.

Simple Simple Brochures and Flyers Brochures and Flyers
Generally used to promote products and services, brochures and flyers are a mainstay of any business or organization marketing program. Most brochures feature colorful graphics in addition to text, while flyers range from simple text to exciting and complex designs.
Common page sizes for brochures and flyers are 8.5 x 11, 8.5 x 14 and 11 x 17 inches. Folding of brochures is usually specified to fit in standard envelope sizes such as 4.125 x 9.5 (#10), 6 x 9 and 9 x 12. Flyers are often left flat.
A "self-mailer" is a type of brochure or flyer which is formatted to be mailed without an envelope. When designing self-mailers, please be sure to consult us or the Postal Service to ensure the design meets mailing regulations.

Digital Brochure/Flyer Pricing Simple Posters and Signs Posters and Signs
When you need to make a BIG statement, posters and signs are the way to get your message seen. Our large format color inkjet printing equipment produces super-high quality output on a variety of papers, including heavy-weight photo gloss and coated matte stocks. For high-volume runs, offset printing your posters and signs gets you high quality in addition to low per-piece costs.
Typically printed on one side only, posters and signs can be just about any size. Common sizes are 24 x 36, 30 x 40 and 36 x 48 inches, but other sizes are often chosen in order to fit into photo frames or sign holders. We recommend gloss stock for designs that incude photos or heavy solid graphics.

Sometimes called "mass" or "bulk" mailing, direct mail has proven to be one of the most cost-effective forms of advertising ever invented. While cost per impression is typically higher than with other marketing methods, the beauty of direct mail is its abiltiy to target customers and prospects and avoid wasting precious funds. In the end, it's "cost per results" that matter, and that's where direct mail shines.
Navigating the complex world of USPS mailing regulations is not for the faint of heart, but at Cedar Printing we've become direct mail experts through years of experience. Just supply us with your database in any common format (such as Excel or .csv) and we'll do the rest, including checking your list for address errors and making corrections when possible, sorting your list to obtain maximum postal discounts, addressing your mailers using high-quality equipment for a professional look, and delivering your mail to the USPS with all required paperwork.
Looking for regular first class postal processing (with stamps)? We do a lot of that as well, saving our customers from the laborious tasks of inserting, sealing and stamping large mailings. However we process your mail, you can be assured we will get you the lowest rates available.
Graphic Design Graphic Design
Except for copying orders, most print projects require graphic design to create a "print-ready" file, which is used as a digital "original" in the printing process. Print-ready means the design is complete and ready for printing without further modification, and is usually in .pdf format.
Our customers frequently provide design files for printing, in common formats such as .pdf, .doc, .jpg and others. While many times these files are truly print-ready, other times there are adjustments that must be made in order to get good-quality results. Our graphics department is happy to make such files print-ready at very reasonable prices.
We also design projects from scratch at similarly low rates; just give us a sketch, mockup or even a napkin with pencil writing, and we'll put together attractive and effective designs for your approval.

Digital Printing Digital Printing
Most printing these days is either "offset" or "digital" and Cedar does both. In general, offset printing uses a mechanical press and liquid inks, while digital printing uses electronic systems and dry toners. Each has its strong points, and which method to use is based on how much time is available, the quality required, budgetary concerns, etc.
Digital printing's advantages include quick production time, variable data capability and lower cost for short runs. Cedar produces most digital orders within a day or two, and often in just hours. Variable data is often used for marketing mailings; we print the recipient's address at the same time we print the rest of the piece, saving time and money, and we can also vary information throughout the mailer to increase useability and response rates.

Binding & Finishing Copying (Black & Full Color) Large Format Black Copying, Scanning & Printing Scanning to PDF and other formats Shipping and Packaging More! Offset vs Digital Offset or Digital: Which to Choose?
Offset printing uses traditional presses and ink. Digital printing uses electronic systems with either dry toner or special liquid inks. Both can produce very high quality results, but some types of documents work better with one printing method or the other.
Offset printing is generally less costly per piece for longer runs, while digital can cost less for shorter run lengths. Digital printing is faster, making it perfect for last-minute rush projects. Some types of orders can only be run using offset (such as some envelopes) or digital (for variable data).
You probably want offset printing if:
All pieces will be identical Quantity will be at least 250 pieces You can wait 3-10 business days You want the best quality at the lowest cost You probably want digital printing if:
You need variable data (each piece is different) or Quantity will be under 250 pieces or You need your order in 1-2 business days Please ask if you are unsure which method is best suited to your project.

Andy Flamm, Owner and General Manager
Along with his wife, Jan, Andy opened Cedar Printing in 1983 and has kept a singular focus on customer satisfaction ever since. Keeping up with new technologies such as digital printing and Internet communication is a major part of Andy's role, and hardly a day passes when he isn't called upon to figure out the latest technique for achieving customer objectives. Andy is also responsible for marketing and sales activities, including attending networking and civic events.

Simple
Offset Envelope Pricing Flyers Flyers
Similar to brochures, but without being folded, flyers are a common method of disseminating information about all kinds of products and services. A flyer can be a simple black and white sheet on lightweight bond paper, or it can be a real showpiece, printed on high-gloss stock in full color with aqueous coating.
Flyers are most often printed 8.5 x 11 inches, but many other sizes may be used as well. They are typically handed out as part of a marketing package, perhaps inserted into pocket folders, but also often included within envelope mailings. Next to business cards, flyers may be the most economical form of printed material.
Labels Labels
Sometimes called "stickers," labels have a multitude of uses within every business and organization. Shipping labels go on large envelopes and packages; product labels identify model information and provide important warnings; file folder labels help keep papers organized; the list goes on.
Cedar prints labels in just about any size you can imagine, in colors ranging from single to vibrant full color. Labels usually come on rolls or sheets, but can be individually trimmed with peel-off backing for certain sizes and purposes. Need consecutively numbered labels? Labels for outdoor use? Labels to cover up outdated information? We can do it!
Banners Banners
We print banners in all sizes and for all purposes, including permanent indoor banners for retail advertising and short-term use outdoor banners for events and promotions. Grommets, pole pouches, wind slits and other features are use when appropriate to ensure your banner meets your needs and lasts a long time.
When ordering banners, be sure to indicate the type of use planned for the finished product. It is critical for us to know if the banner will be used indoors or outdoors, as certain inks and banner materials hold up better in sunlit, rainy, windy or other conditions.
Blueprints Blueprints & Large Format Copying
What we usually call "blueprints" these days are actually large format black and white copies or digital prints, and they are no longer blue (thank goodness). Whether you call them blueprints, floor plans, schematics, exhibits or whatever, we'll copy them quickly and cleanly. Mounting and laminating services are also available.
We can also print large format documents from your digital files. Just visit our Upload Files page and provide instructions when you send your documents.
Rack Cards Rack Cards
Extremely popular for "take one" promotional materials, rack cards are like mini-brochures that wait patiently to be plucked by consumers who are looking to make a purchase. Full color graphics make them attractive, and heavy stock with UV coating makes them stay that way.
Standard size for rack cards is 4 x 9 inches, and printing is usually done on both sides to maximize effectiveness.
Letterhead Letterhead
Your letterhead says a lot about your business, so make sure it says the right things, such as "top quality" and "trustworthy" rather than "sloppy" and "cheap."
Cedar Printing's design staff would be happy to help you come up with a letterhead that supports your objectives, and our production team will ensure that your printing looks professional, just like you do.
We have a virtually unlimited selection of letterhead papers with matching envelopes and cover stock for business cards, report covers, postcards, etc. Don't forget to order blank second sheets for multiple-page documents.
Folders Pocket Folders
When making presentations to customers or prospects, you'll want to give them informational and promotional materials such as flyers, price lists, brochures, business cards and perhaps electronic media, and pocket folders are the perfect container for those important items.
We print a variety of folder formats and sizes, with one or two pockets plus business card and media slits as requested. You'll present a professional image with custom-printed pocket folders.
Legal Briefs Legal Briefs
Being located in the capitol city of Minnesota, we have a lot of experience copying and binding legal briefs for submission to the local courts. We carry the required colors of cover stock, and our binding systems conform to court specifications. Moreover, we take great care to ensure accuracy and privacy as we know our clients are counting on us.
Briefs may be submitted as hard copy originals or as print-ready PDF documents. Word processing documents may not be correctly formated when electronically transfered and will require extra time and expense for proofreading, and are therefore not recommended. When ordering, please specify color of cover, quantity to be bound versus unbound, and whether original should be bound.
Copying Copying
For "hard copy" documents needing reproduction, our copying services are just what you need. With the latest in digital equipment, our copies look as good as your originals, sometimes better!
Standard black ink copies are done on smooth, bright white 20 lb. bond, while we use a heavier 70 lb. text for color copies. A wide range of paper upgrades are available, including pastel and bright colors as well as a variety of weights and textures. Typical copy sizes are 8.5 x 11, 8.5 x 14 and 11 x 17. Large format copying for blueprints and other oversize documents is also available, with 24 x 36 and 36 x 48 being the most popular sizes.

Binding and Finishing Binding and Finishing
Most print orders require some sort of binding or finishing, such as collating, stapling, hole-drilling, folding, cutting, etc. At Cedar Printing, we put as much effort into giving you top-quality finishing work as we do for the printing itself.
We offer several forms of binding, including plastic comb (GBC), plastic coil (spiral) and Velo (hot-knife strips). Our staff will be happy to advise you on the best type of binding for your projects.
We also do padding for note pads, laminating, mounting on foam board, booklet-making, numbering, scoring and more. If you need it, we probably do it.
Shipping Shipping
We'll be happy to ship your completed printing order via courier, UPS or the Postal Service. No markup will be added for shipping products we produce for you. We pick up and deliver orders for nearby clients, generally at no charge for orders over $50.
You may also drop off packages to be shipped or items to be packed as well as shipped. Fees are based on handling required and will be quoted once we know the weight, destination and amount of packaging needed.

I just wanted to send you a quick note and tell you how much I appreciate working with Cedar Business Printing in St. Paul. Our office has been working with Cedar Business Printing for several years and, as the Graphic Design Manager here, I am responsible for all of the printing projects from our department. Every time I call CBP, no matter what the project, or what the time line, Tammy is always very helpful and always has a "can do" attitude. Her customer service skills are outstanding! She has inspired me personally, I've tried to adapt her "can do" attitude to my own work situation because of how much I appreciate getting that service and attitude from her. I get calls and brochures, and emails from print venders soliciting our projects on a daily basis. But, when anyone here asks me for a recommendation for a fast turn quick print vender, I always give them Tammy's contact information. When I send a project to Tammy at CBP, I never worry that it won't show up on time or be exactly the way I requested it. This is priceless to me. Many kudos to your company, and especially to Tammy Ward. - Deborah, Higher Education Network
Cedar Business Printing has been an invaluable extension of our office for many years. In our experience they have always been reliable, creative and professional. Because they have never let us miss a deadline and have always delivered a quality product, I wont consider going to another printer. We have an excellent relationship which I accredit to their great service and workmanship. - Georgia, Legal Services Firm
Andy, Tammy, Jim and Cedar Business Printing have been our partners for close to ten years now and we wouldn't be with any other printer. Excellent service, help with tight turnarounds, quirky document troubleshooting, special jobs, A+ quality printing, fair prices and their location on the skyway is an unbeatable combo for us - every job is taken, picked up or delivered with a smile. Cedar staff always puts our needs #1 and we couldn't do business without them. - Becky, Public Relations Firm
I just have to say that Tammy is the best!! She is amazing, she is a do it all person. I don't think there is a project that I have given her that she has said it can't be done or that it won't get to me by the deadline needed. Plus she is so fun to work with, very personable. I would recommend Cedar Business Printing to anyone just because she works there! - Ashley, Tour and Travel Company

Cedar Printing opened in 1983, located in the Pioneer Press Building in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. We moved to the Securian 401 Building in 2008. Many of our customers place and pick up orders in person, whereas many others order by phone, fax or the Internet and have us deliver their projects upon completion.
Still owned and operated by the original owner, Cedar Printing sets itself apart by focusing on people, not technology. While we have many of the latest tools to efficiently do our work, we understand that printing is a specialized service that requires clear, careful communication between our staff and our customers.
Online ordering tools are great, but they can't take the place of knowledgeable, experienced printing experts who help customers make purchasing decisions, set up digital files, make last-minute changes and keep abreast of each order's progress. Cedar's staff offers much more than order-taking; we add value.

What is a Bleed What Is A Bleed?
A bleed in printing parlance is an image that runs off the edge of the page. It can be a thin line, some wording, a graphic or a solid background.
Bleeds are a popular design strategy and can enhance the look of many types of printed documents, but they require the printer to use a larger sheet size which will be trimmed to the final size after printing. Here's why: most printing equipment, whether offset, digital or other technologies, cannot print an image all the way to the edge of a sheet of paper. They require at least a small margin on one or more edges.
So, in order to print bleeds, the designer must add extra image that can be trimmed off after printing, and the printer must use oversize paper and then do the trimming. For example, an 8.5 x 11 flyer with bleeds could be designed on an 8.75 x 11.25 page size and printed on a 9 x 12 sheet, then trimmed to 8.5 x 11.
Something else to consider when setting up a document that will bleed: be sure that no text or important images are placed too close to the final edges of the page, or they might get cut off when the printer is trimming the bleeds. In the above example, the final page size is 8.5 x 11, so all the important information should be within an 8.25 x 10.75 area. That way there will be a safe zone of 1/8 inch on all four sides.
You can find examples showing how to set up bleeds for various sizes of documents by clicking on Templates.
Proofing The Importance of Proofing
When you spend time and money creating a printed item, you want it to be just right, don't you? Well, so do we, and proofing is a key activity in our effort to produce your printing exactly how you want it.
If Cedar Printing is designing your piece, we'll show you a proof before we start printing. If you find any errors or would like to make changes, we'll be happy to make the corrections or changes and show you another proof. (Please keep in mind that while errors on our part are not chargeable, any changes you request will incur additional fees.)
If you supply a print-ready file, we will not usually show you a proof, since it would be the same as your submitted file. However, we may bring to your attention any concerns we have about how your file will print or suggestions for improvements. If you request that we make changes to your file, we will want to show you a proof to ensure that everything is now correct.
Once you approve a proof, you take responsibility for any errors that you may discover later, even if we made them. By approving the proof you are telling us that we did the work correctly. Therefore, if a reprint is required due to errors not caught in proofing, we will have to charge accordingly. The moral of this story is this: please proof carefully!
